birth of baby
A collaboration with Jonathan Lewis, whose three poems - The baby who made those around him hate, Yesterday, I think, and The Old Lady inspired Becalalis Brodskis, a, to create a series of images around them. It is a book that shocks and appals, but the scenes that it describes have their own beauty, and many people, whilst they know they should not, laugh, when they read it. “The book’s theme is common - a world in which violence is everyday and loneliness is endemic,” comments co-creator Jonathan Lewis. “The book’s effect is far from everyday; on the one hand, the controlled blast of text and images makes the effete lyricism of many poems seem anachronistic and detached. On the other, the book is full of sympathy for the victims it describes. Even if they wanted to make one, there will be no second edition. The original printing plates have been cut up and made into little sculptures of characters from the book.
